Morning: Arrival in Mendoza & A Welcome Feast 🛬🔥🥩

My journey led me to an unforgettable day at Mosquita Muerta Wines and Bodega Los Toneles, where a passionate winemaker Gustavo Sanchez and their team guided me through an immersive exploration of Mendoza’s rich winemaking culture. From an incredible Argentine parrillada to a deep dive into the vineyards, finishing with a fine dining experience, this was the ultimate Mendoza wine tour.

We were whisked away to Mosquita Muerta Wines when we landed in Mendoza. But before diving into the vineyard tour, the team had something special planned—an authentic parrilla Argentina.

With the majestic Andes Mountains as our backdrop, we were welcomed by the mouthwatering aroma of asado sizzling over an open flame.

After hours of travel, there was no better way to settle into Mendoza’s wine culture than with:

🍷 Mosquita Muerta Blend de Tintas – Perfect for starting a meal and great conversations.

🍷 Sapo de Otro Pozo Blend – A layered red that paired beautifully with chorizo and morcilla.

🍷 Mosquita Muerta Black, Cabernet Sauvignon – A bold choice that enhanced the smoky flavors of the asado.

This exclusive wine and food pairing perfectly introduced Mendoza’s winemaking tradition before stepping into the vineyards.

Midday: Vineyard Tour & The Power of the Zonda Wind 🌿🍇🌬

With our appetites satisfied, we set off to explore Mosquita Muerta Wines‘ breathtaking vineyards. As we walked among the vines, we felt the dramatic Zonda wind—a hot, dry current descending from the Andes Mountains that plays a crucial role in Mendoza’s terroir.

How the Zonda Wind Shapes Mendoza’s Wines

The Zonda wind naturally controls pests, reduces disease pressure, and even enhances grape flavors by causing mild stress on the vines. The combination of high-altitude vineyards (800-1,500m), alluvial soils, and Mendoza’s extreme temperature shifts results in wines that are both powerful and elegant.

Bodega Los Toneles - Argentina

Next, we visited Bodega Los Toneles, a National Historic Heritage Site dating back to 1922. Walking into the bodega, we witnessed a seamless blend of vintage winemaking charm and contemporary innovation.

Inside, we toured the modern fermentation spaces, aging cellars, and towering barrel rooms. The winemaker explained their blending techniques, utilizing concrete eggs, amphorae, and oak barrels to craft distinctive Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah.

Why Bodega Los Toneles Stands Out

The philosophy at Bodega Los Toneles is a balance of tradition and innovation, pushing the boundaries of modern Argentine winemaking while honoring its deep-rooted history.

Evening: The Best Fine Dining Experience at Abrazado 🍽️✨

The grand finale of the day was a spectacular dinner at Abrazado, the fine dining restaurant inside Bodega Los Toneles. Every dish was a tribute to Argentina’s rich culinary traditions, perfectly paired with premium wines from the estate.

Unforgettable Food & Wine Pairings at Abrazado

🍽 Angus Tartar Topped with Raw Yolk – Paired with Cordero Con Piel de Lobo, Singular Sparkling.

🍽 Mendoza Rib Eye Empanada – A traditional empanada with hand-cut beef, followed by a Dry-Age Rib Eye Steak, seasoned to perfection and paired with Vilma, Gran Syrah.

🍽 Starry Night in Abrazado – A chocolate dessert inspired by Van Gogh’s famous painting, paired with the bold Mosquita Muerta Extra Brut.

As the night came to an end, I raised my glass in appreciation of this exclusive Mendoza experience—one filled with hidden gems, extraordinary wines, and the warmth of the people who brought them to life.
